    MLB Official Site &bull Aug 3, 2010

Smoltz, Maddux to miss Glavine luncheon ATLANTA -- Outfielder Jordan Schafer has been placed on Double-A Mississippi's seven-day disabled list because of lingering effects from the left hand injury that sidelined him most of last year. Lourie determined that the portion of Schafer's hand that he surgically repaired in September appears to be structurally sound. His belief is that the 23-year-old former top prospect is still dealing with some of the muscle atrophy that developed while he spent at least five months last year confined by a brace or cast. The repair is great," Braves general manager Frank Wren… Full Story »

Like the rest of us, Murray Chass wants to see as much of Stephen Strasburg as possible. If Strasburg averages seven innings a start, he would have 14 starts after his second outing in Cleveland Sunday. 9. Active Hall-of-Famers (pitchers)

    Baseball Reference Blog &bull Jun 3, 2010

Firstly, here is a plot of the fraction of pitchers active in any given year that ended up as Hall-of-Famers. I used ERA-title-qualified seasons for this calculation. It is generally very similar to the hitters' plot, including the Federal League dip in 1914-1915, the World Ward II dip in the mid 1940s and the general drop from 1930 to present day. One big difference is the large fraction of HOF pitchers in the earliest part of the 1900s. I'm not sure of the reason for this, but generally pitchers from that… Full Story »
